(Credit: Amazon) The scarcity of hard disk drives will only get worse in the coming weeks and months, according to an analyst at Piper Jaffray.

"We could run out of drives by the end of November," Piper Jaffray analyst Gus Richard said in an interview Tuesday while discussing the shortage in the wake of the severe flooding in Thailand, where roughly half of the world's production of HDDs takes place.

Apple appears to have hit a home run with the new iPod touch, at least in theory. Basically, they've taken all the cool from the iPhone, and removed the requirement for related a monthly cell phone bill. How cool is that? Well, I'll tell 'ya, it's way cool if you didn't already buy the iPhone and get locked into a cellular contract.

Many who've already purchased the iPhone are a bit peeved, as not only are they locked into a cell contract with a carrier they may not have otherwise done business with, but they did so at $200 more than the iPhone's new price! At least Apple is offering them some consolation by sending $100 rebate checks out, but still...ouch.

This weekend I launched a new, secure DCCTV Database for our Professional Community members.  The DME Resources Wiki was discontinued, and all content from the Wiki was migrated to the new database.

Literally tens of thousands of people visited our Wiki since I made it a public resource, and over 7 thousand of them registered with the Wiki. Unfortunately, despite the impressive numbers, only our Professional Community members were contributing.

This new members-only resource will streamline security, administration, and I truly feel provide a better user experience for our nearly 2,000 verified Professional Community members.

Thank you to all of those who have and continue to contribute to our Professional Community content and members area!

Maybe you just use the reporting capabilities from your tool of choice to produce PDF forensic reports, and that's great if it's working for you. Acrobat Pro can do so much more than many realize, and I've used it for many years to create interactive reports & demonstratives.

Stumbled on another story this morning about the imminent demise of Adobe Flash & how Adobe just removed it from Acrobat Reader & Pro via critical security bug fixes. Given all the news lately about Flash's scheduled & long-planned demise, it made me wonder if folks would be interested in a Webinar or Meeting on using Acrobat Pro for reports & demonstratives.

To that end, I've posted a member poll in our Community Forums on the topic. Let me know your thoughts by voting on the topic the next time you log-in.

As always, thanks for your valuable time and participation my friends! Be safe out there. ?

A series of Key frames (K) and Delta frames from a video stream.

Lossless trimming is the ability to trim, cut or extract segments of audio & video without re-encoding the original multimedia streams, maintaining both the original frames/samples and their related metadata. It is a process as old as digital video itself, and one that can be extremely helpful when dealing with hundreds or thousands of hours of digital video evidence for a case.

Reduce file size, reduce duration and maintain the original frames & quality. Bonus, the process is even faster than traditional editing, as you don't have to wait for the video to be re-encoded!

Spatial vs. Temporal Compression

Spatial (Intraframe) compression is applied to each video frame independently, treating each frame as a stand-alone image. This is the type of compression leveraged by high-end video production facilities as it provides superior picture quality and efficiencies in the editing process. Every frame is a key frame.
